Nokia Smartphones: Update to Android 9 Pie is coming later
HMD Global, the company behind the new Nokia phones, actually wanted to quickly provide the smartphones with an update to Android 9 Pie. That’s why the Nokia 7 Plus was already involved in the development of the new Google operating system. But now everything is different – or later. This has been announced by the “Chief Product Officer” of HMD Global on Twitter. The reasons for the delay, however, are very curious. There are a few “platform-specific certification errors”. What exactly that means is not explained in the tweet:
Nokia 7 Plus wants to be distributed and when more Nokia smartphones wants to follow. After all, these are Android devices that have little customization and should actually be updated quickly. Of course, problems may arise and must be resolved before the rollout, so the customers are not bothered with it.
While Samsung, LG or Huawei are still working on updates on Android 9 Pie for their smartphones, OnePlus has already delivered. Since a few days, the new software for the OnePlus 6 is available for download . The company did not wait until the successor OnePlus 6T is introduced, which will likely ship directly to Android 9, similar to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. On the other hand, Google and Essential have updated their Android smartphones on the same day of the release of Android 9 – and have no problems complaining.
So it will be exciting to see when the Nokia smartphones really get the update on Android 9 Pie and how it will look like in the future with the update policy. The company promised a lot, now everything has to be kept. What do you say to that? Is that just an excuse?
