Apple TV+ announced today (Opens in a new tab) On Apple TV + Newsroom, its movie studio, Apple Original Films, has acquired the rights to a new Jennifer Lawrence movie.
According to the release, the company has landed Causeway, a new movie starring and producing the Academy Award winner. The film, which comes from popular studio A24, is directed by Lila Neugebauer, who will also be directing Red, White and Water with Lawrence.
Apple says the movie will debut in theaters and on the streaming service later this year.
What is Causeway?
According to the press release, Causeway is “an intimate portrait of a soldier struggling to adjust to her life after returning to her home in New Orleans.”
Lawrence is pretty much a household name at this point. The actress has graced the screen in several blockbuster movies including Don’t Look Up, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and a host of X-Men movies.
She will be joined by Emmy nominee Brian Terry Henry (Atlanta, Bullet Train). Directing Lila Neugebauer has previously worked on popular Broadway projects such as The Waverly Gallery, Maid and The Last Thing He Told Me. The film was written by Otesa Moschvig, Luke Goble and Elizabeth Sanders.
The company says Causeway will debut on Apple TV + and in theaters “later this year,” but it hasn’t given an exact release date. Regardless, the move shows that Apple continues to take on massive projects with bankable stars, something that appears to be a key part of its strategy.
