Magic Eraser and Camouflage Mode on Pixel 6: How to use it

Magic Eraser and Camouflage in Google Photos are great features of the Google Pixel 6a, 6, and 6 Pro. Although not perfect, it can make your photos much better by removing or muting unwanted background objects. This guide will take you through how to use it, and what might happen if you don’t see it in Google Photos.

What is Magic Eraser?

Magic Eraser has been a huge hit with many of us who loved taking photos on our phones but wanted the ability to do some light photo editing with great impact. Magic Eraser requires very little effort on the part of the user, and it literally lets you erase objects from the photo you just took.

All the user has to do is either loosely select the object they want to erase or choose an object that Google Photos suggests on the Pixel 6. If you select an object, the Pixel 6 will try its best to replace that object with a created wallpaper. This is where the Pixel 6’s Tensor chip comes in since its primary purpose is to handle machine learning tasks like the Magic Eraser.

Besides Magic Eraser, Google Photos has another unique tool that was released with the Pixel 6a and will also be available for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. This tool is called camouflage. Not only does this tool look great, but it also uses a lot of the same skills as Magic Eraser to uniquely transform your photo.

Rather than completely erasing the content in an image, Magic Eraser’s blur mode has a different goal in mind.

In photos where there is a clear subject in the foreground and a specific background, the eyes are drawn to the main object. However, sometimes a brightly colored object sneaks into the background, making the focus out of the way. Blur mode allows you to select and mute that brightly colored object, changing its color, thus taking the focus out of it.

Note that blur will not trigger suggestions on every photo. Instead, it only tends to offer suggestions for images with bright, obvious images in the background. In our Ben Schoon experience, the feature tends to find suggestions only on rare occasions, but that may change depending on what photos you take. In any case, you can manually specify an image outline to mute its colors, although this tends to be a bit stricter than Google’s suggestions in our testing so far.

We had a chance to put this new feature to the test with our Pixel 6a review. Overall, the tool works as it should, however, just like Magic Eraser, it doesn’t get every shot right. Besides, it is a great tool to have in your arsenal.

How to use Magic Eraser on Pixel 6

One of the main reasons Magic Eraser makes its mark as a great feature is the ease of use that it offers through Google Photos. You don’t really need to have experience with any of the photo editing tools or any kind of skill. Heres how to do it:

1. On your Pixel 6 or 6 Pro, open a file Google Photos App.
2. Once in, Search for a picture on which you wish to use Magic Eraser.
   • In general, try using Magic Eraser on an image that includes a person in the background or a generic obstacle that you want to erase completely.
3. Click on that image, and find a file release button. Click on it.
4. Scroll through the sections, and find Tools. Tap it, then tap magic eraser.
   • NB: Oftentimes, Magic Eraser will be there in the suggested tools when you press release.
5. Use your finger to Draw a line around the topic want to remove it.
6. Once you have successfully drawn a line and removed the topic, click he did and then Save as a copy If no further editing is required.

Using blur mode on Pixel 6 series phones

Since you are familiar with the Magic Eraser in Google Photos, using the blur mode on the Pixel 6 series will be easy. It uses the same basic process, allowing you to easily select and hide an object or objects in the image.

Here’s how to use blur mode in Google Photos:

1. On a Pixel 6-6, 6 Pro, or 6a phone – open a file Google Photos App.
2. Search for a picture You want to try camouflage and click on it.
   • advice: We suggest choosing one with a clear theme and a background that contains a bright object.
3. Faucet release.
4. under Tools tab, select magic eraser.
5. Faucet camouflage.
6. Click on a featured Suggested Object in the picture, or Define the object by yourself.

After selecting an object, you will find that the object will be instantly muted to match the overall tone of the image. You can select as many objects as you want to get the perfect picture.

This feature will be available from July 28 onwards for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro phones. Currently, the Pixel 6a already has the feature, and for $449, getting a Tensor-powered device to handle these features is a steal.

Magic Eraser modes missing in Google Photos

Back when I introduced Google Photos Magic Eraser, some users were having issues with features not showing up in their Google Photos version. Some were able to fix this by uninstalling a side version of Google Photos and reinstalling while others need to be updated.

Camouflage mode won’t be available for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro until July 28. When the day comes, you can head to the Google Play Store and check for updates to see the new blur mode in Google Photos. Here’s how:

1. Go to Google Play StoreAnd the Click on your profile picture.
2. Search and tap Manage apps and devices.
3. Faucet Managesand select File Updates are available the average.
4. See through the list, and See if Google Photos has an update Available. if so, check boxAnd the Press the refresh button Usually a circular arrow with a check mark inside.

Either way, Magic Eraser and Camouflage mode are great tools to learn how to use on the Pixel 6. While they might not be useful for every photo you have, there are plenty of use cases.
