The list of devices promoting the newly unveiled Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is gaining a new member as the Xiaomi Phone 12 is set to launch next week in China.
[Update 12/23]: According to a new batch of teaser posts on Weibo (via XDA) spotted by Xiaomi’s Telegram fan channel, we now have an idea of some details of screen resolution and refresh rate. The post indicates that we will see the Xiaomi 12 Pro ship with a second-generation Samsung LTPO AMOLED display with precision lenses and micro-prism technology.
This screen is said to be rated “2K,” but it’s still unclear if that means FHD+ or 1440p – which is “real” 2K instead of 2,000 vertical pixels. The Xiaomi Mi 11 series has seen a number of devices with QHD+ panels, so hopefully this means the Xiaomi 12 Pro will pack in a decent 2K panel.
Despite this confusion, Xiaomi has also confirmed that this panel will feature a fully variable refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz with dynamic switching based on the content of the screen. Expect to see this technology more often during 2022 due to the potential battery conservation potential of switching the refresh rate in this way.
Xiaomi has moved to the Chinese networking site Weibo (via XDA Developers) to confirm the launch date of the successor Mi series. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is also guaranteed, with the Xiaomi 12 duo being the first from the Chinese company to promote the new chip.
No details have been shared about the launch of the Xiaomi 12 series outside of China. However, we don’t have much time to wait to learn more about the latest flagship Android devices.
