In recent years Huawei has been superior in the chipset industry for mobile devices. The latest breakthrough offered by Huawei is the presence of the Kirin 980 chipset which they introduced at the IFA 2018 and came as a chipset with 7 nanometer fabrication.
Noted, until now the Kirin 980 is the strongest chipset and you can find it on the Mate 20 smartphone , Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X and Magic Honor 2 . Well! The latest information reveals that the Chinese manufacturer is reportedly preparing Kirin 990.
Yes! It is said that the Kirin 990 will be the successor to Kirin 980 and will be officially introduced as early as Q1 2019. It is estimated that Huawei in testing the chipset will collaborate with TSMC and is estimated to require an investment of around 200 million Yuan.
Like the Kirin 980, the Kirin 990 is also expected to be a chipset produced using 7 nanometer fabrication. The difference is, the Kirin 990 will be the Huawei debutant chipset which is packed with a 5G modem. Hopefully, this chipset will arrive with a 5G Balong 5000 modem.
Compared to Kirin 980, this successor is estimated to only consume 10 percent less power and overall performance can increase 10 percent. Unfortunately, there is no information available about other specifications of this Kirin 990.
Huawei itself is known to be quite confident to use the Kirin chipset in the smartphone it developed. Apart from Huawei, of course there is also Honor as a Huawei sub-brand that also often uses the Kirin chipset.
In the next year, it is estimated that Huawei will still release a smartphone in which the Kirin 980 chipset will be inserted. Therefore, the Kirin 990 chipset will not be used in the near future. So, we just wait for further leaks from Kirin 990.
