Introducing Foundations: Squarespace's Updated Brand Guidelines

Today, we are introducing Squarespace Foundations, an articulation of the creative principles that define our brand, and how they show up across all touchpoints. As new tools and technologies change how we work and create, Foundations grounds our brand in what we’ve always believed: that taste, human creativity, and a clear point of view matter more than ever— especially for entrepreneurs and creators trying to build something that lasts.

More than a set of guidelines, Foundations gives shape to how those principles come to life,  from typography and color to photography, motion, and voice. Not by making everything look the same, but by ensuring it all comes from the same creative point of view.

As Squarespace has grown, so have the ways people experience our platform and brand. Foundations brings those experiences together through a shared creative system designed to feel intentional, expressive, and unmistakably Squarespace.

“We started this work as a way to codify what makes our brand distinctive and to carry that clarity through every expression of Squarespace,” said Satu Pelkonen, Senior Director, Brand Design at Squarespace. “Foundations helps ensure that our brand shows up in a way that feels intentional, consistent, and unmistakably Squarespace wherever people experience it.”

Foundations also reflects how we think about design in an increasingly automated landscape. As more content competes for attention online, we believe design is the ultimate competitive advantage and are committed to helping entrepreneurs build brands that cut through the noise. While tools and technology will continue to evolve, human creativity and judgment remain at the center of the Squarespace experience.

Squarespace Foundations is now live and will continue to evolve alongside our platform.
