Microsoft is releasing Windows 11 build 29595 for the “Feature Platforms” version and Windows 11 build 28020.2149 for the 26H1 version through the Experimental channel, delivering new features, incremental changes, and fixes.
According to the official changelog, “Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (29595)” only introduces platform changes as part of moving to a new active development build.
As part of build 28020.2149 (Experimental experience for version 26H1), the company is improving the reliability of explorer.exe when closing the input switcher and switching between virtual desktops.
On the storage side, Microsoft updated the Dev Drive creation experience to support specifying storage sizes in gigabytes instead of only megabytes. The same improvement is now available when resizing volumes from Settings > System > Storage.
In addition, the company updated the Times New Roman font family to improve the rendering of combining diacritical marks across Greek and Cyrillic scripts. The change enhances text readability and visual consistency by fixing character positioning issues for users working with those languages.
Other details
It’s important to clarify that Windows 11 26H1 is not a feature update for existing devices. The software giant has explicitly confirmed that version 26H1 is not an upgrade path for computers running Windows 11 25H2 or any earlier release.
This release is designed exclusively for new ARM64 hardware and will ship only on next-generation computers, starting with devices powered by Snapdragon X2 Plus, Elite, and Extreme processors. Systems based on Intel or AMD platforms will never receive Windows 11 26H1 through Windows Update or any other supported upgrade channel.
