Mark Peters’ career began with a geology degree from Auburn University and grew into a life’s work applying science and technology in service to the nation. A foundation of curiosity and analytical rigor has guided him across national laboratories, federal leadership, and now MITRE. His journey is a reminder to graduates that a STEM education can be more than a field of study. It can be a foundation for leadership, public service, and impact at national scale.
From Auburn geology to leading one of the nation's most influential science and technology organizations, Mark Peters ('86), came back to the Plains to share his message with our newest graduates. Now CEO of MITRE, a nonprofit tech company, Peters reminded graduates that a scientific education is preparation for leadership. "My education taught me how to think. You learn how to approach a problem with curiosity and from all different angles." Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/e7CqvXhW

New momentum is driving warfighting acquisition improvements, but lasting progress will take time and requires a clear understanding of where challenges remain. MITRE’s 2026 State of Warfighting Acquisition Survey, drawing on feedback from 1,200+ stakeholder professionals and industry subject matter experts, points to growing confidence that recent changes will accelerate speed and expand opportunity. At the same time, the findings show that progress is not uniform as stakeholders are not yet seeing system-wide outcomes. http://spklr.io/6043EzdWl #WarfightingAcquisition #NationalSecurity
