In last month’s Mac mini launch video, Apple briefly mentioned a “coming soon” version of Final Cut Pro for Mac. We believe Apple is likely to announce this update later today, as the annual Final Cut Pro Creative Summit kicks off today with tours of Apple Park starting at 2pm PT today. Final Cut Pro version 10.7 was demonstrated at Apple Park on the same day as last year’s conference.
Final Cut Pro received its latest feature update to version 10.8 in June. New features include enhanced lighting and color effects, smooth slow-motion options for slow-motion visuals, advanced searching and filtering in the timeline index, and more.
After a bug-fix update in August, Final Cut Pro is now available in version 10.8.1. Given that Logic Pro upgraded from version 10.8.1 to 11.0 earlier this year, it’s likely that the next version will be Final Cut Pro 11, not 10.9.
We recently reviewed three new features that Apple says will be coming to Final Cut Pro for Mac later this year, including spatial video editing, AI-generated video effects, and automatic AI-generated subtitles. Final Cut Pro images from last month’s Mac mini launch video also showed off an unreleased “magnetic masking” feature that might allow users to isolate moving objects in the foreground of the video.
Final Cut Pro’s upcoming automatic subtitles featureAt least some of these features may be extended to newer versions of the Final Cut Pro iPad app. The Final Cut Pro companion apps Compressor and Motion for Mac and the Final Cut Camera app for iPhone may also be updated.
In the US, Final Cut Pro currently sells for $299.99 on the Mac, while the iPad version is a subscription-based app priced at $4.99 per month or $49 per year.
