Galaxy S22 Ultra sales are said to be on track to reach 11 million

Samsung has been in a bit of a smartphone slump for the past few years, but it looks like the company is on track to make a big improvement this year. According to forecasts, Samsung is on track to achieve around 11 million Galaxy S22 Ultra sales this year, making it the most popular Galaxy Note device in at least five years.

According to well-known tipster Ice Universe on Weibo, Samsung’s expected annual sales of the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be around 10.9 million units.

Compared to the past few years, it’s a huge jump in popularity. Over the past five years, Samsung has topped the list with the Galaxy Note 8, which sold just over 10 million units during its first year. Ice details the Note 9 totaling 9.6 million, with the Note 10 series dropping slightly to 9.5 million. However, it was the 2020 Galaxy Note 20 series, which proved to be a low point as only 7.5 million units were sold. Pushing the clock back, Samsung sold more than 50 million Galaxy Note devices between 2011 and 2013, which mainly consisted of the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 3.

Looking at the raw numbers alone, it’s impressive to see Samsung return to its 2017 totals, especially when you consider the conditions around it.

The smartphone landscape has changed drastically in the past few years, with the industry as a whole experiencing a slowdown in growth, and is actually on track for a decline of more than 7% this year according to some analysts. Samsung’s Galaxy Note form factor, famous for its large screen and S Pen, is seeing a lot more competition from devices without a stylus, but with similarly large screens.

Of course, there are definitely a few reasons why Samsung is in huge demand for the Galaxy S22 Ultra this year. For example, Samsung skipped a generation by waiting for a device with the S Pen to be released until early 2022, rather than the usual late 2021 release date that most fans of the series had been expecting. The pent-up demand is definitely attributed to better sales.

The fair price of the Galaxy S22 Ultra was definitely a contributing factor. The 2020 Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was released for about $1,400 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the many economic factors that resulted from it.

Moreover, Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra has also proven to be a huge hit among early adopters and reviewers.

In our own review of the S22 Ultra, we said:

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is, until further notice, the best premium Android phone you can buy. Overall, it offers the best experience for most people, with satisfactory and usable software, very powerful cameras, and excellent battery life compared to other options. The $1,199 price is also well within reason, with killer Samsung swap deals and inevitable discounts that give many the option of paying much less for this device.

This year’s Ultra isn’t as clear a winner as its predecessor, although it’s still the best choice for a phone that can’t be compromised.
