Are you tired of regular Roboto? Or do you have a custom UI that comes with themes and font stores like MIUI or One UI, but the fonts provided are terrible or paid? Today we learn how to change fonts for free using a simple application available on the Play Store. The free version contains ads, but there are no special restrictions! We will also see a practical example (on MIUI), but the application is compatible with many other interfaces. The ones officially more or less fully supported are:
- a user interface
- Xiaomi user interface
- color operating system
- Real user interface
- Oxygen OS
- Interesting touch
- magic operating system
- Zen user interface
Obviously, the compatibility list may vary based on the app and updates from each manufacturer, but the app will be able to warn you if your smartphone isn’t supported.
Disclaimer: The app is safe and the process is essentially risk-free, but we take no responsibility for improper use of the tool.
Step 1: Download the App
The application is called zFont 3 and it is Available for free on the Play Store. It doesn’t require any special permissions beyond those that are strictly necessary, but they may vary depending on the smartphone brand.
Step 2: Search for your favorite font
If you already have a font that you want to apply in TTF format, you can skip this step. Alternatively, a great resource for downloading fonts for free in a completely legal way (fonts may be copyrighted, so we encourage you to only use fonts that are not copyrighted) google fontswhich is a portal known to many people and widely used by web developers.
You can filter by font type or category, or simply scroll through the list (it’s quite long, we’re talking about 1500 font families). In my case, I already knew which font I wanted: it’s called Poppins. Once you’ve downloaded the fonts (even directly from your smartphone), just use the font integrated into every Android smartphone (even document Google). Alternatively, the app integrates a font extractor that can be called directly from Chrome after downloading the file. You can find it in the “Downloads” section of zFont 3 under the “Extracted” heading.
Step 3: Application Fonts
This step is the last step. There are some variables in the process, depending on the interface you will be using. However, the app is well-made and will guide you step-by-step based on the software it recognizes. Tip: Font families are made up of many files because they contain all the styles within them (such as bold or italic, and different character weights). For use on smartphones, it is recommended to use “regular”. Once you’ve selected your font (and its style), just click Apply. Depending on the interface you will be using, it will recommend one or more installation methods. For smartphones powered by MIUI or Hyper OS, you should have 4 possible options. On a Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G with MIUI 14 and Android 13, I used method 2 (MTZ). After a simple reboot, the font will be applied. If you change your mind, you can also return to the default fonts without any consequences.
At this point… have fun! You’re sure to find a font that’s right for you!
