iPadOS 15.5 update may stop iPad mini 6 from charging – Apple is investigating

It appears that a software update may prevent Apple’s latest tablet from charging properly, and the company is taking a look at the issue.

Software updates are supposed to improve the user experience and make our lives a little easier regarding our technological devices; But sometimes things can go wrong and do the exact opposite, and some user reports have apparently indicated that such a thing happened with the iPadOS 15.5 update on the iPad mini 6.

According to an investigation by MacRumors, Apple sent an internal memo to authorized service providers that acknowledged that some users are finding the iPad mini 6 impossible to charge after the latest software update. The source indicates that Apple is advising service providers and retail employees to restart the device as a temporary solution to the problem, while the manufacturer continues to investigate what went wrong.

The charging issue, reported by an unknown number of users, is a potentially worrisome issue that unfortunately detracts from the distinction of the iPad mini 6, which we gave 4 stars out of 5 in our review and called it “easily the best small tablet out there”. Particularly impressed by the sleek design, ultra-fast performance, support for 5G connectivity, and the Apple Pencil, we found it to be a great performance that’s hard to overlook when you’re looking for an easily portable device for work and play.

On the same note, Apple has apparently realized that the problem has nothing to do with hardware but rather about software, so hopefully a quick patch can fix the problem for good.

There’s also a major OS update on the way to all compatible iPads later this year; Scheduled to launch in September, iPadOS 16 is packed with new features and upgrades, including updates to the Messages app, the native Weather app (finally), Metal 3 support for upgrading games, and a new Freeform app to collaborate with many people on the project. Currently in the public beta phase, we certainly hope that any potential issues will be fully resolved before the iteration of this new OS rolls out.
