Production of the Mercedes EQS SUV begins in the United States

Mercedes-Benz has announced that it has started production of its latest electric vehicle, the Mercedes EQS SUV, in the United States.

This is the first all-electric Mercedes-Benz to be manufactured in the USA, and production has now begun at their plant in Alabama.

Mercedes-Benz exclusively produces the all-electric EQS at its North American passenger car plant. These off-line vehicles are a major step in Mercedes-Benz’s global initiative to produce eight fully electric cars at seven locations on three continents this year. The full-size EQS SUV has been integrated into series production at the Mercedes-Benz Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama, which has been the site for production of the large three-wheeled star SUV since 1997. Tuscaloosa serves as the primary production site for Mercedes-EQ luxury electric SUVs: EQS SUV and EQE SUV, which go into production later this year.

Jörg Borzer, Member of the Board of Management of the Mercedes-Benz Group, Production and Supply Chain: “Our production network is very well positioned for the sustainable and rapid expansion of electric vehicle volumes. With the new EQS SUV joining our production lineup of all-electric Mercedes-EQ models, we have reached another important milestone in our strategy to go electrified by the end of the decade – wherever market conditions permit. I am absolutely sure that the fantastic Tuscaloosa team will make their electric SUV another global success.”
