Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset at the 2024 Snapdragon Summit, attracting the attention of many mobile phone manufacturers and confirming the adoption of a new mobile platform. During the event in Hawaii, Xiaomi and Honor announced that their Mi 15 and Honor Magic 7 series will launch this month, possibly in China, and feature Snapdragon 8 Elite chipsets.
ASUS also confirmed that the new ASUS ROG Phone 9 will use Snapdragon 8 Elite. In addition, TM Roh, head of Samsung’s mobile division, attended the event and reiterated the cooperation between Samsung and Qualcomm. Although he didn’t specify the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung’s future flagships in 2025 are likely to use this powerful platform.
All in all, many of next year’s top Android phones will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, with the Samsung Galaxy S25 series being among the first to launch in the US, UK and Australia, expected to launch in January. Models from Xiaomi, Honor and OnePlus are likely to arrive in China first and then be released internationally in 2025.
Compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the 8 Elite is equipped with a second-generation Oryon CPU designed to handle multi-modal AI more efficiently. Phones equipped with this chipset will offer faster app launch times, improved multitasking, and more advanced generative artificial intelligence capabilities. Players will also benefit from clearer visuals, smoother gameplay and longer gaming sessions thanks to the upgraded Adreno GPU.
During the Snapdragon Summit, TechRadar will have more details on the Snapdragon 8 Elite features, so stay tuned for the latest news from Hawaii!
