The Moto Razr 2022 event organizes the confrontation in August with the Galaxy Z Flip 4

Motorola plans to display the Moto Razr 2022 to the public before it launches the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 on August 10.

Moto has confirmed a launch event on August 2 in China where it will reveal the next generation flipable alongside the Moto X30 Pro. While Motorola has only confirmed the China-based launch plans for now, the Moto Razr 2022 is likely to launch in Europe and the US as well.

With the Moto Razr 2022, which will be the third major version of the rebooted range, set to boast flagship specs for the first time, this is definitely the one to watch closely.

In addition to the promise of a specs battle between Samsung and Moto, price will also matter. A report earlier this week suggested that Samsung may raise the European price of the base 128GB Galaxy Z Flip 4 to €1,080, up from €1,049 for the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

If Moto can undermine that, while also challenging Samsung in the specs and critical acclaim department, we’ll have our first real battle of the foldable era on our hands. However, given that the Moto Razr 5G was $200 more expensive than the Z Flip 3, Moto has some work to do to secure parity.

Samsung has taken the lead in the sector and announced earlier this week that it has sold 10 million foldable phones overall. More competition would be good for everyone, even Samsung. And if Apple eventually releases the iPhone Fold, this segment will be really influential in the auto industry.

“Three years ago, the Galaxy folds could have been summed up in one word: radical,” Samsung President and President of MX Business Dr. TM Roh said earlier this week. However, “what was a new day three years ago is now the preferred choice of millions.”
