Apple recently removed the colored flags from the macOS Monterey Input Source menu bar item, but fear not – there’s a new app that brings them back to how they always were!
When Apple released macOS Monterey 12.4, it made a small change that affected a lot of people. By removing the source input tags, it made it more difficult to know which inputs you selected and which ones are available. Instead of those flags, simple two-letter country codes.
What happened to the freak, Apple?
Fortunately, there’s a solution — a new app called Keyboard Switcheroo that puts a new item in your Mac’s menu bar and offers the same functionality we know and love, complete with tags that Apple has unofficially stripped. The application tools can be seen in the screenshot at the top of this post.
Keyboard Switcheroo goes further than that, too. Now, you can select a custom icon including emoji for the input source, giving you complete control over how everything looks – take that, Apple!
Switch keyboard languages easily! Switcheroo is a menubar app that displays your input sources with colored flags – or with a custom image of your choice! Use the menu to switch, add or remove input sources with just a few clicks. It’s the perfect app for polyglots and philologists alike.
So how far can it be said that the best Mac app that shouldn’t exist is taking you back? Only $1.99 – and you can get it on the App Store now!
