One common misunderstanding in K–12 technology is the idea that once something is installed, configured, or deployed… It’s done. But in reality, there’s no such thing as “set it and forget it” in K-12 IT. Not with devices, not with security, not with cloud tools, and definitely not with user access. Behind the scenes, IT teams are (or should be) constantly: -Updating systems and patching vulnerabilities -Reviewing logs and monitoring alerts -Reassessing permissions and access levels -Replacing aging hardware -Evaluating new risks as threats evolve -Supporting instructional needs that change every semester When people only see the finished product, the working Wi-Fi, the devices that “just work,” the systems that stay online, it’s easy to underestimate the maintenance behind it. Technology isn’t a one-time project. It’s a living system that requires care, attention, and continuous improvement. For districts working toward stronger security and better reliability, the biggest shift is helping people understand that IT isn’t just a checklist, it’s an ongoing process. Which tasks do you feel never seem to be finished? Here is my blog post that includes my top 10 tasks that never seem to be truly finished: https://lnkd.in/gaepqAEG

Honored to be part of this critical conversation on scaling AI thoughtfully across higher education. The CSU’s partnership with OpenAI is not just about deploying ChatGPT—it’s about addressing an epistemic, indeed seismic, shift that is forcing us to rethink not just how students produce answers, but how we teach them to question, reason, and create knowledge in partnership with intelligent systems. I am grateful to Sophie White, Jenay Robert, and the EDUCAUSE team for creating a space to explore these critical topics. And kudos to my fellow panelists Edmund Clark, Felix Zuñiga, Ed.D., and Siya Raj Purohit for sharing their insights and lessons learned. Proud of the role San Diego State University is playing in shaping the future of ethical, inclusive, and impactful AI in higher education, and thankful for the tremendous leadership and support from Adela de la Torre. If you're curious about how AI is being implemented across the largest system of four-year higher education in the country, give it a listen here: https://lnkd.in/e6QQ5Gc3

As a teacher and consultant for colleges and universities, these student journey stories from the Possibility Lab and California Cradle-to-Career Data System are so inspiring and insightful. Key actionable strategies for schools include: --> Support Systems: Invest in wraparound services at community colleges—financial aid, mentorship, and career training. --> Mentorship: Train faculty and staff to identify and nurture student potential beyond academics. --> Flexibility: Recognize and validate non-linear educational paths; create re-entry programs and flexible learning options. --> Equity and Inclusion: Address systemic barriers by supporting first-gen, low-income, and neurodiverse students with targeted resources. --> Experiential Learning: Expand internship and hands-on learning opportunities, especially in graduate programs. --> Narrative-Driven Policy: Use student stories alongside data to inform policy and program design. Thank you Cris Guevara - Plunkett, Giovanny Elizarraraz, Cristian Ramon Ramos, and others for sharing your stories! I raised this question on the forum early last year: Should higher education leadership now incorporate into their strategic planning an assessment of their readiness to facilitate partnerships, mergers, and acquisitions? Whether we welcome it or not, this is an increasingly prevalent trend within the sector. #mergers #universities #highereducation #highereducationleadership https://lnkd.in/er4TgfaU

LAUSD HR and CSULA have partnered through the Computer Science Supplementary Authorization Grant to strengthen existing computer science (CS) courses and expand offerings. This grant will prepare and credential 60 additional CS teachers, enabling the district to reduce enrollment disparities for female students, students of color, and English learners, while expanding equitable access to high-quality CS opportunities across schools. This article highlights further expansion of the work. 📊 Strong Results with FOSS in LA Unified School District (LAUSD) From 2022–2025, FOSS schools scored 5 percentage points higher on average in “meets and exceeds” on the Grade 5 California Science Test (CAST) compared to LAUSD overall. In 2025 alone, FOSS schools outperformed non-FOSS LAUSD schools by nearly 7%. LAUSD has adopted two science programs—FOSS and Amplify. Results shown are based on public assessment data.

One in five American students are educated in a rural school That's nearly 10 million students! And it's just part of why we're so excited to launch the RAISE AI Collaborative specifically for rural school teams in Texas and Arizona this fall. We'll equip and coach schools to align district policy, instructional vision, and classroom practice and explore (with clarity and purpose) how AI can enhance student-centered, rigorous learning while ensuring coherence across a system. Vote for our sessions at SXSW to help us share our findings and elevate strong models! 👉Designing Your District’s AI Integration Roadmap: We'll share our biggest lessons, strongest examples, and most utilized resources and supports around AI integration. 🔗https://lnkd.in/g78fWiWX 👉Driving Impact in Rural Schools with Coherent AI Integration: We'll explore our grounding framework, the AI Readiness Framework, and how it's being used to create a coherent, clear, and purposeful approach to AI integration 🔗https://lnkd.in/g_EtBa75 LeeAnn Lindsey, Ed.D. The Oregon Computer Science Teachers Association 2026 Spring Conference will be held April 11 at George Fox University in Newberg. This is a no-cost professional development day for K-12 computer science educators and program leaders. Sessions include AI ethics and classroom integration, K-5 coding pathways, cybersecurity instruction, Unity game design, CAD and rapid prototyping, competition preparation, and legislative updates affecting CS education in Oregon. A high school programming contest will run alongside the conference. If you are building or refining a CS program, events like this provide direct access to peers doing the work and practical ideas you can implement immediately. https://oregoncsta.org/

Leading the way in AI literacy, right here in Fresno County in partnership with our school leaders… Fresno County Superintendent of Schools (FCSS) is taking a thoughtful, responsible approach to AI in education, aligned with national guidance from the U.S. Department of Education and grounded in what matters most: students, educators, and equity. Our focus starts with: • AI literacy first- supporting educators in understanding AI before expanding classroom use • Clear guardrails- prioritizing privacy, civil rights, and equity as new tools emerge • A human-centered approach- using AI to support teaching and learning, not replace professional judgment or relationships.
